VICTORIOUS: Portsmouth beat Port Vale
7 October 2023
Portsmouth were victorious as they hosted Stoke-based outfit Port Vale at Fratton Park – two goals from striker Colby Bishop secured the three points for the home side.
The game was a typical tight league-one affair with both sides having chances and sharing the ball pretty equally, but it was Portsmouth who were clinical when it was needed and eventually secured yet another win.
Portsmouth had a difficult first half only managing one effort on goal courtesy of a Paddy Lane header that went wide. However, with the support of the home crowd, Portsmouth began the second half very positively, scoring two goals in the space of five minutes shortly after the restart.
Bishop’s first goal was a close-range effort assisted by a Joe Rafferty cross in the 53rd minute and his second goal was a penalty just five minutes later, which was won as a result of a handball by Vale defender, Kofi Balmer.
This result extended Portsmouth’s unbeaten run to an impressive 23 games and maintained their position at the top of League One, with Oxford United in second, a point behind, with a game in hand.
