Not just for Barbie: UoP dance supporting the colour pink
Purple may be the UoP colour but this Wednesday (18 Oct), students turned the town pink as they put on their rosiest shades of fuchsia, bubblegum and Barbie pink to raise awareness for Breast Cancer charities.
All sports teams, including the dance, futsal and hockey, picked out pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to go out on the town.
The teams headed to all the favourite venues such as The Guildhall and Popworld, wearing everything from leotards to pale pink cords, and some gen-z approved cowgirl hats.
One second-year Business student said it "helped show support for those going through breast cancer".
It also raised £650 for Sophie’s Legacy - a charity set up in the memory of a "remarkable young girl". The inspiration for the charity, Sophie Fairall of Fareham, died aged 10 after deciding to stop her cancer treatment in 2021.
The charity was set up to "achieve national change" and continues to do so, serving nine hospitals in the local area. Including the children's ward at Queen Alexandra Hospital (Portsmouth).
Many UoP sports teams continue to post on their Instagram platforms about ways to identify signs and symptoms of cancer. Here are some links to find out more: @UoPdance, @UoPgymandtramp and @teamuop.
