Portsmouth Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was “badly bitten” by a dog on Milton Common, a popular dog walking area on the east side of Portsmouth Island.
The story was widely shared on social media by the woman bitten. She said that she suffered eight puncture wounds for which she had to be treated at hospital.
“Unfortunately, I think that there are a lot of people who think their dogs should be allowed to do whatever they want,” the woman said.
Portsmouth Police said: “On Monday November 13 at approximately 2.30pm a female was attacked at Milton Common by a pointer type dog. If you have seen this incident please contact 101 quoting crime reference: 44230464537.”
This news comes as a proposed new law to control the ownership of XL Bully dogs is due to come into force. The Dog Control Coalition, of which the British Veterinary Association is a member, said “urgent action needs to be taken to protect the public from out-of-control dogs.”
