First Look: Rapunzel- The Tangled Panto
This week is the start of Panto season in Portsmouth; there are four to choose from. I’ve already been to the press night of Hook at the Kings Theatre. On Wednesday, I went to the press view for Rapunzel - The Tangled Panto at the Guildhall.
The press conference was quite a grand affair, in the Lord Mayor’s Banqueting suite, with the Lord and Lady Mayor in attendance. We all had to do our best sidestep in the singalong.
It was a great opportunity to get a glimpse of what was to come. Arguably, the primary school children who’d been invited asked better questions than the assembled journalists, with the best being: “How long have you been so wicked?”, directed at Mother Gothel, the baddy, played by company founder Charlotte C-K.
The children mostly had questions for Rapunzel (“how long is your hair”), and were very impressed by Pegasus the Stallion's sparkly outfit.
Rapunzel is a production of the Portsmouth community theatre group Curtain Call. They’ve done a few Christmas shows in the city over the past three years, specialising in inclusive, interactive, child-friendly performances and using a huge LED screen to create the scenery.
Running from December 19-27, with an adult version in February.
