Weather watch: Storm Ciarán

As we go to press tonight on our Wednesday round-up, Portsmouth City Council issued a weather update, and also confirmed that the Southsea Common firework display will still go ahead tonight at 7pm – despite the high winds and heavy rain.

Southsea Common fireworks – still going ahead despite storm

The 20-minute display will take place tonight (Weds 1 Nov) from 7pm – 7:20pm. Additional entertainment and live music have been cancelled, but there will still be food & drinks vans on site, even though the grass is very flooded...

Weather Watch: Tie down your trampolines

Storm Ciarán is expected to affect Portsmouth tonight (Wednesday 1 November) in the evening and throughout the day on Thursday 2 November with high winds and heavy rain.

The city council advises:

  • Check for loose items outside your home and secure them during high winds. This may include ladders, trampolines, and garden furniture. This will help protect your property from damage and other people from injury.

  • Plan your journey to avoid travelling during the stormy weather if possible.

  • Think about your neighbours and help to protect the vulnerable people that you know, they may need support with food and medical supplies.

Portsmouth City Council updates can be found here.

Be careful out there.
